  13. I am having problems sending faxes from my US Robotics Sportster
  14. fax/modem, using Microsoft Fax in Windows 95.  I would greatly
  15. appreciate any tips or pointers anyone might be able to provide.

  17. The problem:
  18.  
  19. 1. I create a fax to be sent, either in Microsoft Exchange or directly
  20. from a program, such as Word.  Microsoft Fax formats the fax, dials
  21. the modem and connects to the receiving fax machine.  Sending begins,
  22. and the first page of the transmission is sent successfully.

  24. 2. Each time, after the first page is 100% sent, there is a delay of
  25. about 30 seconds, and then the Fax Status box gives the message
  26. "Send failed", and the fax transmission is terminated, even though the
  27. first page has been sucessfully received by the remote machine.  The
  28. error message in Microsoft Exchange reads partially as follows:

  32.       A problem occurred during transmission.  No pages were sent..
  33.       The remote machine hung up.  One of the following may have
  34. occurred:
  35.       The machine is out of paper.
  36.       The machine is incompatible with Microsoft Fax.
  37.       There was noise on the line.

  41. What I've tried:
  42.  
  43. 1. To rule out problems with the remote machines, I tried sending
  44. different messages to different remote machines. Each of the machines
  45. was verified to be working before I sent the faxes.  Exactly the same
  46. problem with termination of the fax occurred each time.
  47.  
  48. 2. To rule out line noise or other problems, I sent long faxes from
  49. another machine on the same line, to the same remote machines.  The
  50. termination problem did not occur with the other fax machine.
  51.  
  52. 3. I have tried enabling/disabling  various modem settings from the
  53. "Advanced Modem Settings" dialog, to no avail.  I have also tried the
  54. following modem configurations:  
  55.         Sportster 14400 Fax PC Plug & Play
  56.         Courier Dual Standard V,34 Fax
  57.         Courier 14,400 V32bis Fax

  60. My system configuration is:

  63. Windows 95 & Microsoft Fax
  64. US Robotics Sportster 14.4 Internal Modem on COM 3, IRQ 5
